Namaskar Mahatmas!
There was an artist who travelled far and wide and had built up for himself an extensive reputation. One day he got an appointment with Lord Krishna, met Him and requested Him to stay still so that he could paint His picture. He prepared an outline and told Krishna that he would get ready with the final painting in a week’s time. Krishna knew the ego of the painter. After a week, the painter brought the portrait of Krishna covered with a white cloth. In Krishna’s presence when he uncovered the painting, the painter himself was shocked at the lack of similarity between Krishna and the painting. The painter asked for another week’s time to get the job done. The painter tried several times but every time the result was equally disappointing. In complete frustration, he wanted to leave the city and go away.
When he was going away, he met Sage Narada. Narada told the painter that it was silly to attempt to paint the picture of Lord Krishna. The Lord has no fixed form and he can change His face every second and also become formless. Narada advised, “If you really want to paint Him, I will tell you a method which will enable you to do so.” Narada whispered something into the ear of the painter. Following the advice of Narada, the painter came back with a white cloth covering something and again approached the Lord and told the Lord that this time the picture will look exactly like Him. When the cloth was removed, Krishna saw only a mirror and this mirror produced an exact replica of the Lord.
Any attempts of describing the Lord will only end in failure like this painter and it is totally beyond our senses and mind. When we make our mind clear and clean like a mirror and fill it with love and devotion, we will be able to have the true vision of the Lord which is totally different from what we have imagined.
Namaskar Mahatmas!
Last two weeks: Slokas 9, 10 and 11 explained the nature of people who are into ritualistic karma alone and one who has bookish knowledge of scriptures alone. Both of them are into darkness. By perfect co-ordination between knowledge of scriptures and action man attains to perfection. Through Karma, we conquer our likes and dislikes in the mind and through worship, we become single pointed in our approach to life.
How and where we can apply this single pointedness in our life is explained in sloka 12, the results of such worships in sloka 13 and what is the right way to knowledge is explained in sloka 14.
…
A TRUE DEVOTEE IS VERY HUMBLE, COMMUNICATIVE, LOVING AND GENTLE IN BEHAVIOUR.
Prayer and contemplation strengthen our will power in cultivating this inner quality of HUMILITY.
Let us continue to meditate on these slokas in the coming week. Hari om!
