March 12th, 2010 by Chitra Devaraj

Namaskar Mahatmas!

  • Sarvagah – One who has gone everywhere; One who pervades everything
  • Sarvavid-bhaanuh – One who is All-knowing and Effulgent
  • Vishvaksenah – He is the Almighty and All-powerful that no army can stand before Him
  • Janaardanah – One who blesses joy and peace to the good; gives sorrow and disaster to the vicious.

VEDO VEDAVID-AVYANGO VEDAANGO VEDAVIT KAVIH

VEDAH: In the tenth chapter of Gita, the Lord says: “Out of mere compassion for them, I, abiding in their Self, destroy the darkness born of ignorance, by the light of wisdom”. The term Veda comes from the root vid which means “to know”. The Lord is named as Vedah for He is the one who gives the knowledge of Reality because He is the very reality. He Himself is All-Vedas, All-sciences, All-techniques and All-dedicated actions.

VEDAVID: One who knows the Veda is a Vedavit. The Lord alone is the One experience without which the Vedas cannot be fully realized. The beautiful, surest and most exhaustive commentaries on Vedas are given in the mind which is stilled, which is in complete silence, which is in communion with Vishnu, the Supreme Reality. In the 15th chapter of Gita the Lord says: “I am the author of the Vedanta as well as the knower of Vedas”.

AVYANGAH: Avyangah means one who has no imperfections anywhere in Him. The Lord is the All-perfect. Avyangah also means ‘one who cannot be known by anyone in any personal-form’. Lord krishna explains to Arjuna that this Great Reality is Imperceptible, Unthinkable, without any modifications.

VEDAANGAH: Kenopanishad says that all knowledges are the limbs of the Lord. Vedaangah means ‘one whose very limbs are the Vedas’. He is the one who stands as Dharma in the Vedas. He is the one who is to be known through Vedas.

VEDAVIT: One who contemplates on the Vedas is a Vedavit. Mere word meaning cannot give us the true depth of the Truth. To repeat the mantras parrot-like is not of any consequence. It is said by our saints that “He who has studied the Vedas but has not understood the meaning, but carries a load, as the ‘road-rest’ on the roadside’. Continuous reflection on the Veda will take us to the ultimate destination. The wise say ‘Study; reflect; meditate’.

KAVIH: The term Kavi means the ‘seer’. One who experiences something more than the ordinary is called a Kavih. There is no seer except Him.

HARI OM MAHATMAS!
