Vishnu Sahasranamam – 35
April 2nd, 2010 by Chitra Devaraj

Namaskar Mahatmas!

  • Vedyah – The one Consummate Knowledge to be gained (vedyah) is the Self, the Great Vishnu.
  • Vaidyah – The Lord is the Supreme Doctor who cures our disease of Ignorance.
  • Sadaa Yogee – The Goal, the Self, the Supreme Lord whom the seeker seeks his identity with through Yoga is a Sadaa-Yogee.
  • Veerahaa – He who destroys the mighty heroes with super ego.
  • Maadhavah – He who helps in the introspection and meditation in the seeker is Maadhavah.
  • Madhuh – One who generates Nectarine Bliss in the hearts of the devotees is called Madhuh.
    ATI-INDRIYO MAHAAMAAYO MAHOTSAAHO MAHAABALAH
ATEENDRIYAH: One who is beyond the sense-organs. It means that He cannot be perceived by the sense-organs as their object. And He is other than the sense-organs and their functions. The sense organs derive their strength from Him and He is just present. He cannot be experienced through the perception, emotion and our thoughts. This source of all-life is Maha Vishnu who is the subtlest who is known through Silence. Kathopanishad says: “HE IS SOUNDLESS, UNTOUCHED, FORMLESS, IMMUTABLE, SO WITHOUT TASTE, ETERNAL, SMELL-LESS”.
MAHAAMAAYAH: One who is the Supreme Master of All Mayaa. The Self, the Supreme Lord is untouched by the play of Maayaa, and yet Maayaa play is sustained only by the exuberant warmth of His Divine presence. The sun is the Master of all clouds. In its presence, borrowing its heat, water by its own nature gets evaporated. The water vapour again, because of its own nature of lesser density than the atmospheric air, rises to the higher altitudes and gathers there as clouds. At higher altitudes it is cooler and the water vapour so cooled becomes water again. Due to the higher density of water, it descends as rain. In this example, the sun can be called as the ‘creator’ of all clouds and the ‘cause of the rains’. The sun is also the ‘master of all seasons’. And yet, the sun is uncontaminated by all these phenomenon that are happening in its presence. All changes in the world of pluralities are happening in the presence of the Lord and having Him as the Support but He is untouched by any changes. He is a great Magician who has the magic of Maayaa at His command. Gita says “Very difficult indeed it is to cross My Maayaa”. We need His grace and guidance.
MAHOTSAAHAH: The Great Enthusiast is the Lord, Mahotsaahah. Looking at the ocean, through the waves, we come to recognize the ocean as the ‘sleepless agitator’; similarly looking at Vishnu through the ephemeral changes in innumerable patterns of life available to us in our experience today, we call Him as the “the Great enthusiast”. This wonderful world cannot be sustained without the endless enthusiasm of this Mighty power – Vishnu.
MAHAABALAH: One who has the Supreme strength is a Mahabalah. He being the source of strength in each individual, in each organism of life, He is Mahabalah. He is infinitely strong. The strength of air, water, fire are nothing before Him. The one who has realized the Self is as strong as the Lord as His identification is with Lord and the Lord expresses Himself fully through such saints and sages. The Guru’s enthusiasm and strength are immeasurable and unbelievable.
    Hari Om Mahatmas!
