Namaskar Mahatmas!

SARVAS-SHARVAS-SIVAH STHAANUR BHOOTAADIR NIDHIR-AVYAYAH

SAMBHAVO BHAAVANO BHARTAA PRABHAVAH PRABHUR-EESVARAH

SARVAH: The Lord is the One cause from which everything and every being has sprung. He Himself is the all. There is nothing apart from Him. In Mahabharatha, it is beautifully mentioned that: “As He is the origin and end of all, whether existent or otherwise, and as He, at all times, cognizes all, He is called ‘Sarva’.” All waves arise from the same ocean, and therefore in all the waves, ocean is the essence. Lord is the essence in every one of us as well as all that is existent and even beyond that.

SHARVAH: The Lord is the Auspicious one meaning, the One who gives auspiciousness to those who hear of Him, to those who have a vision of Him, and those who meditate on Him. We chant the name of the Lord as “Mangalaaya thano Harih” which means, “When Lord is in our heart, there is no more inauspiciousness in our life”.

SIVAH: The Lord is eternally pure. In Him there can never be any contamination of Rajas and Tamas. Not knowing the reality is Tamas and mis-apprenhension of Reality is Rajas. In the Reality Itself there can be neither of them. The Lord is Purity by Himself; He is Brahman; He is Siva.

STHAANUH: Sthaanuh’ generally means the strong, permanent pillars that mark the borders of the country. They are permanent, immovable and fixed. The Lord is that Truth that remains thus firm and motionless, permanently established in Purity is called by the name Sthaanuh – the Pillar. In the second chapter of Gita, the Lord describes Himself as “Eternal, All-Pervading, the Pillar, Motionless is this Ancient One”.

BHOOTAADIH: The five Bhootaas or great elements are the Space, Air, Fire, Water and the Earth. The Lord is the cause of these five great elements and hence named as Bhootaadih.

AVYAYAH NIDHIH: Nidhih means ‘that in which precious things are stored or preserved secretly’. The Lord is the Imperishable Treasure. He is the substratum, the container of the entire universe of names and forms. During the dissolution (sleep) the One into whom all things go and get merged temporarily and in the creation (waking) it brings back everything. The Treasure that is imperishable and unchangeable is the Lord – ‘Avyayah Nidhih’.

SAMBHAVAH: The Lord takes up various incarnations by his own free-will (Atma-maayayaa) for the glory of the world. Hence He is named as Sambhavah. He takes Avataar for the establishment of Dharma, to protect His devotees and to root out Adharma.

BHAAVANAH: One who gives everything to His devotees is Bhaavanah. The Lord is the one who blesses us with both joy and sorrow according to our Karma. He is the one who destroys the evil and blesses the good.

BHARTAA: The one who rules the entire world is Bhartaa, the Lord Vishnu. Ruling includes protecting the world from all harms and serving the world with progress and joy. The Lord is the one who does these to all creatures (How a small ant survives? Who puts the seed for the grass? Who maintains our body temperature? There are hundreds of things which we can ponder upon) at all times. He is the King Vishnu – the great Bhartaa.

PRABHAVAH: The Lord is the very womb of all Five Great Elements. Everything in this universe is made up of these five elements. It is That from which even the very concept of time and space have come.

PRABHUH: The Lord is the All-powerful. The devotees surrender themselves to the Lord understanding His Supreme Power. The Asuras on the other hand always feel they are powerful than the Lord and was always defeated. That Supreme Lord has the supreme freedom to do (kartum), not to do (akartum), or to do in a different way from what He has already done (Anyathaa kartum) is considered as Prabhuh.

EESVARAH: One who has the ability to do anything without the help of other beings or things is called Eesvarah. Once a scientist had great pride that he can create anything and so he challenged the Lord. The Lord told him to create a doll. Immediately the scientist gathered the mud nearby. The Lord told him ‘please create your own mud’. Whatever we create is only with what the Lord has created already. There is only one creator and the Lord is that Eesvarah.

When we meditate on these names of the Lord, where can the ego arise in us? It makes us surrender to His will and accept everything as His Prasad in our life.

Hari Om!
